Jeanette studied at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town. Jeanette has been involved in making, teaching and assessing art in one way or another for more than 25 years.
In the 1980’s Jeanette was Drawing Examiner for the Natal Education Dept and more recently was involved in moderating art practical for the IEB Examining Body.
Gilks has been involved with Innovative Threads since 1997.
Her fibre/textile work appears in private and public collections both nationally and abroad.
Exhibitions
- 1996 - National Quilt Festival - won Best on Show in the Freestyle Section.
- 1997 - Poetry Visualised exhibition - work Sunflowers at Night in response to poet Floss M. Jay from Pietermaritzburg.
- 2002 - National Quilt Festival - won Best on Show in the Freestyle Section.

Garret Artists
Jeanette co-ordinates Garret Artists Drawing Workshops for advanced students which are held countrywide.
Garret Artists had an exhibition called 'All dolled up' at artSPACE durban in October 2005.
